This detailed biology course is designed to address the following areas: what are the components of a healthy diet; what are the factors that affect our daily calorie intake; what are the effects of a poor diet on the body; what does the body need energy for and how our bodies release the energy from our foods; what proteins and fats are and how to chemically test for the presence of these in foods. The course will also look at how our bodies are equipped to digest the food that we eat and why it is necessary and the role of each of the different organs and adaptations of the small intestine and how enzymes work.
This course consists of nine fun and interactive courses targeted at students in forms 1 to 3. At the end of the course, the student should know what makes up a healthy and unhealthy diet and the effects of a poor diet. They should also be able to recall why the body needs energy and how the body releases energy from food. Further, they should be able to understand how the human body is equipped to digest the food that we eat and the roles of each of the different organs.
